The minor whose plea for termination of pregnancy was turned down by the Supreme Court, gave birth at a government hospital in Chandigarh. Senior advocate Indira Jaising, an amicus curiae, mentioned the same before the bench that a compensation of 10 lacs be awarded to the minor victim.

The Supreme Court has sought responses from the Centre and the Chandigarh administration on the same.

Courts allow medical termination of pregnancy under The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act until 20 weeks, and an exception is allowed only in case of a foetal abnormality.

The Supreme Court had refused to grant permission for the medical termination of the 32-week pregnancy of the 10 year old. The plea was filed after a Chandigarh district court refused nod on the same issue on the 18th of July.
